学校概况
弗吉尼亚联邦大学(简称VCU)，是一所大型的研究性公立大学，主校区位于弗吉尼亚州首府奇蒙市。弗吉尼亚联邦大学是弗吉尼亚州内最大的大学之一，拥有近32,000名学生。根据卡内基高等教育机构分类表的分类，弗吉尼亚联邦大学是该州被定义为博士级/研究级的四个大学之一。
弗吉尼亚联邦大学是一所多元化大都市型大学，前身是Hampden-Sydney College，成立于1838年。1968年奇蒙专业学院 (Richmond Professional Institute, RPI) 与弗吉尼亚医学院 ( Medical College of Virginia, MCV)合并后正式成立了弗吉尼亚联邦大学，使得该校迅速发展，专业更加齐全，目前设有文理学院，商学院，艺术学院，药学院，生命科学学院，工程学院，教育学院，联合健康学院等十几所学院，共提供175个专业。其中医学院是美国器官移植计划的发源地，享誉盛名。而VCU的多样性也是非常有名的，在该州的公立大学中，VCU拥有最高比例的少数民族学生。VCU同时也是一年一度法国电影节庆祝活动的主办单位之一，在VCU所举办的法国电影节的规模是全美国最大的。

该校以其国家级的艺术、社会工作、医学管理以及医学相关科系闻名。
院校声望
作为有着近二百年历史的国家级公立大学，各种权威教育认证杂志都对VCU有着很高的评价。
根据2009年USNEWS 排名，该校有20多个专业有着全美顶尖排名：其中绘画、雕塑、平面设计列入全美前10；医学和药学前20；教育学和社会学科列入全美前50；生物学和商学列入全美前120。
诺贝尔奖、奥斯卡奖得主若干名，且不少毕业生已经是诸多世界顶尖企业的CEO。2002年该校的. John Bennett Fenn 博士获得了诺贝尔化学奖。
2003年开始，该校被美国政府列入东海岸8大高校推动地区经济和科研发展中心之一，该校位于弗吉尼亚州的首府奇蒙，就业率100%。

服务设施
学校有两个主校区，Monroe Park Campus和 Medical College of Virginia Campus，人们一般称作学术校区和医学校区。学术校区建筑具有维多利亚式风格，有着砖瓦铺成的古老街道，同时又有现代化设备齐全的宽敞教室。该校区开设：艺术、商业、教育、工程、政治、公共事务、人文社会学、大众传播、社会工作、世界研究等学科。医学校区开设联合健康职业课程（Allied Health Professions）、牙医学、药剂学、护理及医疗学等。学校提供免费巴士来往不同校区。
地区介绍
奇蒙是弗吉尼亚州的首府，位于詹姆斯河下游河港，市区人口197,800，整个大市区人口则要80多万，是一个富有文化气息的城市，南北战争时为南方联邦首府，因此周围有很多历史遗迹。附近盛产烟草，一向为重要的烟草市场和制烟中心。该城市已经连续多次被很多著名出版物评为“美国最适宜居住和工作的城市”（ “Best Places to Live and Work in America”）。而奇蒙国际机场就位于市内。弗吉尼亚州被称为总统母亲，总共有八位美国总统来自该州。
